Have you ever contemplated of the aftermath of this pandemic? There’s so much uncertainties in life right now. What do you think? Do you have plans for your future? What will you do next? What are you doing now? Are you using your time wisely? If you ask me all these questions, I bet I could answer everything straight away.
If you are caught in a situation where you feel like there’s nowhere to go, no one to talk to or there’s nothing to do, well then you’re not alone. Think of every second or minute that you might gain or lose. While this isn’t the best time to waste time and slack off, it isn’t helping your pathetic situation either.
How about you do these things ⇣ . (Let’s do it together!)
THINK OF WHAT YOUR GOAL REALLY IS. FINALIZE IT. WRITE IT DOWN. WHETHER YOU HAVE ONE OR MANY, IT DOESN’T MATTER. WRITE IT AND AIM FOR IT. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO BE SPECIFIC WITH YOUR GOAL.
Personally, when I think of a goal, I interpret it as my one primary goal. A goal which acts as a stepping stone for me towards reaching all my other goals. (If that makes sense.) For example, my goal is to work in Japan as an English teacher. To make it possible for me to apply, I should be proficient in English, have all the required credentials, know basic Japanese, among others. If I work there, I will have a better compensation and good life, to say the least.
You know what~I always have a separate notebook for every single purpose. For instance, a notebook where I store all my vital information (emails, addresses, bank accounts, etc.), I have another one for my travel itinerary and another one specific for my ”goals” (wishlist, must-do, whatever that is) and they’re all organized and well-thought-out. If you’re not an organized person, then you better change that right now coz it will certainly make your life a bit easier. You don’t need to be an OC or obsessive-compulsive though.
For example your goal is to go abroad. Now, write down the top 3 countries you wish to work in the future. Better have not less 3 countries in mind that way if 1 or 2 don’t seem possible for you, at least you have a fallback. Don’t forget to be realistic and ambitious. Meanwhile, if you are certain of a country to go one day, and confident enough to make that possible, so be it.
Primary Goal: Work In Japan As An English Teacher
NOW THAT YOU HAVE A FINAL GOAL IN MIND, IT’S TIME TO ENUMERATE THE REASONS OF WHY YOU HAVE THAT GOAL (or THOSE GOALS if you have many).
Just like everyone else, we need all the necessities or basic commodities for ourselves and for our loved ones. Most us, if not all, like to have a luxurious life or at least close from that. Undeniably, we all have something in common and one of them is the desire to have comfortable life. So what are the reasons of your goal? What’s in it for you?
Example
Reasons/Sub-Goals: Earn a huge income, buy a house for family, support family/relatives, have savings in the bank, invest a business, have access in health insurance, afford travelling in many countries, better retirement, among others. (These become your sub-goals.)
LIST THE STEPS YOU HAVE TO TAKE IN ORDER TO REACH YOUR GOAL. START WITH THE MOST CRUCIAL ONE (FROM DIFFICULT TO EASY). THEN, WORK ON THEM STEP BY STEP.
Process: Gain some work experience, obtain a license in teaching, get certifications like TESOL, TEFL, CELTA, DELTA, score high in English proficiency tests like IELTS and TOEIC to upgrade your qualification, prepare the money needed for your employment, constantly improve your knowledge and skills, do research about current trends and anything related to your goal, and more.
IF YOU WANT EVERYTHING TO GO SMOOTHLY, KEEP IN MIND THAT IT IS CRUCIAL TO STAY OUT OF TROUBLE. SO IF YOU ARE HEALTHY, SINGLE AND NOT PREGNANT, THAT’S FANTASTIC! MAKE SURE TO STAY THAT WAY.
Many might nod in agreement with this but I can’t deny the fact that there are people out there who would raise their eyebrows reading this one. This post isn’t meant to disregard or offend others, so if you’re reading this right now and you don’t feel good about what I’m talking about, please feel free to check out my previous posts instead. Otherwise, if you’re a mom already and has this open mind about this topic, I’ll be pleased for you to stay and hope that you could somehow get some insights on how to incorporate these ideas to your current situation.
I know a lot of people around me who at some point ended up unhappy and discouraged (if not regretful) after all the unexpected circumstances in their lives. Their dreams shattered. While that clearly made them alike, one thing that struck me the most was the fact that they all had unplanned pregnancy.
Imagine someone from a mediocre family who got pregnant unexpectedly or accidentally prior to even starting building a career or future.
I get that the practice or let’s say the idea of having a child at a young age even before marriage is quite rampant and wonted in the Philippines. However, does that make you want to be belong to the group? Just saying. If you have this strong vision in life of what you want to achieve, the idea of having a boyfriend won’t even cross your mind (chuckle).
If you are single and have lots of aspirations in life, plan them, NOW! Think of the consequences of your actions. Know that opportunities are ahead of you and there’s so much you can do to better your life. But don’t forget that the clock is ticking. Don’t wait for lucky chances to knock at your door coz they might not even arrive. Instead, find them or create them.
Note to self: Stay out of trouble.
AFTER THOROUGH PLANNING AND PREPARATION. NOW, IT’S TIME TO GET STARTED WITH YOUR JOB SEARCH. BE SURE TO CHOOSE A COMPANY WISELY AND ALWAYS WEIGH YOUR OPTIONS.
Assuming you found the company to apply for. You’ve already sent an awesome resume and cover letter and all that stuff. What’s your next step after sending your application? Of course it’s preparation time for your job interview! You must think ahead all the time. Prior to an interview or demo , you have to make sure that you are prepared enough for it. Therefore, you’ve made your research and studied everything to ace your application. Remember this ⇢ 3Ps and 1E. Plan, Prepare, Perform & Excel.
Note to self: Think Wisely, Act Wisely
Lastly, I would like to end this with a huge THANK YOU. I appreciate your precious time reading my blog post. I wish you all the greatness in this world and may all your dreams come true. Here’s a kind note for you to live by during this difficult time↴
Give yourself time and space to process things in whatever way you feel is right for you and when you’re feeling giving up, remind yourself that it is okay not to be okay sometimes and whatever you have managed to do today, is absolutely more than enough.
Keep safe! ღツ
